praying in private

Now that you have done all of the previous 6 lessons and have gone away and tried to understand them and share them with someone you can now have the "Final bookmark"!

This bookmark is not to be given to anyone who has NOT done the other 6 lessons first!  The Starter Bookmark can be given to anyone in any order of lessons.  They in turn can share with their family and friends the "Starter Bookmarks".  If you have come to this page out of order and you need the "starter bookmark"  you can find it in lesson 1.

Lesson 7:  A deeper prayer life that pleases Allah:

Isa also taught us how to especially please Allah by adding a special type of prayer in our lives. In addition to our routine prayers, 5 times a day etc..., Allah wants us to pray to him in private. You can find his special example prayer in Matthew 6:6-15.

Go look it up, read it (or listen to it) and follow these instructions:

Say: What does this scripture say?

Obey: What does this scripture want you to personally obey (submit)?

Share: Who can you lovingly share this scripture with and get them to do S. O. S.?

(or S. S. S. Say Submit Share)

You would have found that the example prayer that you just studied in scripture has 5 parts.

We can use our right hand to help us remember how to pray, starting with your thumb and then moving along each finger:

Thumb

Praise

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name”(verse 9)

What can you say to Allah’s greatness, the things He has done, or your love for Him?

Index Finger (pointing finger)

Purpose

“Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (verse 10)

What can you say to Allah about His Kingdom, His plan for the world, or your part in His work?

His Kingdom:

You can pray for -

  • Your leaders that Allah appointed.

  • Help in social justice opportunities like any widows, orphans, fatherless, sick etc.

  • The bringing the Lost back to Allah.

  • Other followers of Allah (the Body of the submitted).

Your purpose in this Kingdom on earth:

You can pray for -

  • Your family and friends

  • Your 'Far from Allah' list

  • Your 'Close to Allah' list

  • Opportunities to speak into these groups and show them Isa as revealed through the Qur’an and these lessons.

  • Ask for Boldness to obey, to speak at the right time and the right words with gentleness and respect

  • Ask for Opportunities to help your neighbors (especially the widows, fatherless, sick and poor)

Middle finger

Provision

“Give us this day our daily bread” (verse 11)

  • What can you say to Allah about the everyday things you need, and especially the needs of others?

Ring Finger

Pardon

“Forgive us our wrong doings, as we also have forgiven our the people that have wronged us” (verse 12)

  • What can you say to Allah about your sins, and about your forgiveness of other people?

Little Finger

Protection

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (verse 13)

  • What can you say to Allah about protecting you from temptation and the influence of Satan?

  • Ask for help to put on the full armour of Allah and claim His promises.  Ephesians 6:10-20

  • Ask for good mentors in your life to show you how to live a life set a part for Allah and to steer you away from the more obvious traps.

This type of prayer is very different from the ones you know so well. This type can do done any time, any where (hopefully private). It is not a wrote prayer but one that comes from your heart and speaks directly to Allah. It is very, very personal.

Did you notice that in the scripture you are to call Allah “Father”. Wow what a thought, what a privilege! Anyone who pleases Allah by treating Isa properly and follows him gets the right to call Allah “Father” and he is the Best Father of all. Merciful and Loving.

By now, among the 99 names of Allah you now have some more.

Among names like:

ٱلْوَدُودُ

AL-WADOOD

The Most Loving

ٱلْغَفُورُ

AL-GHAFOOR

The Forgiving, The Exceedingly Forgiving

ٱلْلَّطِيفُ

AL-LATEEF

The Subtle One, The Most Gentle

ٱلْغَفَّارُ

AL-GHAFFAR

The All- and Oft-Forgiving

ٱلْرَّحْمَـانُ

AR-RAHMAAN

The Most or Entirely Merciful

Now, for those that know and please Allah the most by giving the proper respect to Isa, they can use other names like:

  • “Father”
  • “Holy Spirit”
  • “Isa Al-Masih” ('Jesus Christ' as found in the Injil)

Surely “Father” combines all the best parts of all the names above in the table? As Allah is the perfect Father. Go get better acquainted with your Heavenly Father right now. Don’t waste your gift.
